Money in Tunisia

Hi All,
We are off to Tunisia in 2 months time and getting very excited!! I have been reading up on the country and discovered that we cannot buy currency outside of it, so we can't change our money into local currency before we travel.
Has anyone visited Tunisia before? If so how did you go about sorting your money out? Obviously do not want to take it all in cash anyway, but will want some cash when we get there and some more money in like travellers cheques or something.
Also I have a Visa Debit card from Nationwide, can I draw out money / use this to pay for things over there?
Any help gratefully received, Many Thanks.

We went to Tunisia about 8 or 9 years ago so don't know if things have changed much since then, but we didn't find it a problem to change money over there.
I've long since got hacked off with foreign exchange charges in the UK so just take over as much sterling as I expect I'll need (and then usually add a bit as well). Travelling with £1000 in cash is a bit odd at first but wear it in a money belt so it's pretty safe.
Then when we were over there we found we could change money quite easily. There was an exchange burearu actually in the hotel and there were lots of streetside vendors that would also exchange money for you at a better rate than the banks/hotels gave.
My tip is to use good old cash !

We went to Tunisia last year. We arrived at Monastir airport and picked up cash at an ATM in the airport. It was very easy and it is much cheaper than changing cash. We used a normal debit card, just check that it has the '' cirrus'' logo on the back.
Hope this helps. Have a great time!0
