Currently on a capped Price protection Plan 17 with E-on which is due to end on 1 Oct '09. On this tariff from previous address. Just moved and only form of heating is different from old address i.e. storage heaters which I have not yet used and therefore have no way of knowing what consumption or electric prices are likely to be. I have just received a notification from E-on that with effect from renewal date they will put me onto a Price Protection R1 deal - which I can find no mention of in any of the comparison suppliers websites and, although they assure me that I am only likely to increase my bills by £2 a month, I don't know how they can assume that if, they like me, have no idea of my expected usage. How do I find out which one would perhaps be most suitable for me to switch to? I only have electricity.

    Hi Babybella,

You’re completely right, in your circumstances the estimated increase mentioned on this letter aren’t accurate due to the change of property, these tariff change letters are generic and won’t specifically relate to your exact circumstances.

The R1 tariff won’t show on comparison sites as it is not a tariff available to everyone, and it won’t show as a current tariff on the switch sites as no one is on this tariff until 1 October 2009.

The best thing to do is use the comparison sites to find out what tariffs available are best suited to your requirements. This is difficult as you won’t have any consumption history in your new property, so unfortunately you’ll have to make some educated guesses, maybe basing this on your current monthly payments to E.ON.

If E.ON has set a Direct Debit or alternative monthly payment method up with you already, this may have been based on property details and previous tenant/owner details to get a rough idea.
