Eon versus Npower

I recently went to uswitch.com to change my gas and electricity supplier in order to get the free box of wine, as advertised on this site a few months ago.
My current supplier was npower, they charged me £122 per month direct debit for both gas and electricity.
I did the comparison on Uswitch, and as it turned out, Eon were a shade cheaper. They promised to save me £5 per month, not much, but I thought, £60 per year + a free box of wine, not to be sneezed at!
A few days after my application, npower contacted me in an attempt to win me back, and told me about a "Brand new tariff" that had just come out. By switching back to npower only one month after leaving them, my monthly direct debit is now £77 per month. Now that is a proper saving!
Plus I still get my free box of wine!!
Woo Hoo!!
Hope this might help someone else

Welcome to the forum.
Your monthly Direct Debit is absolutely no indication of your costs.
There is no way that the true cost of your gas and electricity has reduced with Npower from £122 to £77 a month. Either the £122 was too high as you were paying back a debit balance, or the £77 is too low - or a combination of both.
If you went to one of the other suppliers and told them you were paying £77 a month to Npower they would reduce your DD even lower(albeit initially)
The call centre staff are on commission and will offer you as low a DD as you wish to get your custom.

I understand your scepticism, however, Npower used my useage history with them, which was up to date acurate, to assess my DD payment.
I guess I'll just have to wait and see if they put up my DD!!0 -
But what prices are the three tariffs? The size of your instalments is of little relevance. What region are you in? I can't see any region where nPower have a cheaper tariff than E-on.0
