My top tips would be - avoid La Ramblas, awful overpriced tourist trap./QUOTE]

Rubbish, I love sitting on the ramblas enjoying a glass of wine, watching the world go by, some of the street entertainers are fabulous, especially the Diablo, the deaf guy and the couple who dance the Argentine tango.

Like any destination abroad or home, its wise to pack your common sense before you go. I have been ten times and have never had a moments trouble and have never been pick pocketed.

As I said before that was my opinion!

Not sure if your comment about common sense was aimed at me or not, if so, I was just answering the OPs question about pickpockets.. I do believe it is a bit more of a problem than elsewhere (certainly all the waiters warned us about it) but it wasn't a big deal. I wasn't carrying any cash and cancelled my cards straight away. Just one of those things really, I had my handbag on across my body on the train, no idea how I was pickpocketed but there you go.

    too many comps..not enough time!

I got my purse stolen out of my hand! They just grabbed it and ran off.
  • Hi,

I've been 3 times, and am visiting again in November, lovely city, yes you have to be careful, like in any city. The Ramblas are lovely, yes they are expensive of course, as is covent garden, but to sit in the sun with a glass of vino people watching.. you can't beat it... Everybody warns about the pickpockets and I'm sure it is a problem but keep your wits about you and you'll have a fab time...

We stay on the ramblas, purely so we are not walking down the narrow/dark streets at night.. (girls on hols..) yep we pay the price for it, but it suits.. Last minute.com are usually pretty good.. The fourth qtr of the ramblas onwards towards the seafront can be a bit intimidating at night, but during the day we walk for miles around..

I don't think I behave any different in Barcelona than I do in any other City,

Tapas and Cava... roll on November....!

    Have a great time..

Wasnt aimed at anyone in particular, its advice for anyone.

I have only seen one incident involving a pickpocket, it was a sting set by the Guardia Seville, and erm they don't behave like our police, especially when the accused was bundled down a side alley

    Thanks again.

Is it worth buying the Barcelona card? Do you need to do much travelling by public transport? We will be using it to go to and from the airport and staying in the Gothic area?
  • The horror stories of La Ramblas seem grossly over the top. Barcelona is no worse than any other major city in the world.Just take sensible precautions as you would anywhere

I personally wouldn't bother with a T10 just a day pass for 5.50Eur (bus, metro et al)

I wouldn't bother with the tour bus, especially in high season as things can be reached just as easily with public transport and normally a lot quicker
