honeymoon advice

Hi,
I'm getting married in July next year and was wondering
a) where to go for our honeymoon, and
b) should I book it now (i.e. will it be cheaper)
I'm looking for something special (obviously!) at around 3-4k all in. We were thinking of going to Oz but I hear its not the best time of year to visit. Therefore I was thinking of maybe thailand or a caribbean stay and cruise deal.
I'd be interested to hear any tips/advice on this!

What sort of things do you like doing? It might help to narrow the search a bit
too many comps..not enough time!0 -
How long do you want to go for? Do you want relaxation? Luxury? Resort? Adventure? Off the beaten track? Spiritual?0

I guess we're looking for luxury! Also with work commitments it's unlikely I'll get a chance for a long break for quite a while so I'm looking for something long haul.0

With that budget you should have lots of choice. Mexico, Carribean, Thailand, Maldives..
We went to the Maldives in early June and loved it, but be careful which island you go to if you do go there, it has to be one with a good reef (IMO). It would be their rainy season then though, although that doesn't necessarily mean it will be really bad weather at all.

If it were me, I would be looking to book around November/December time...Carribean isn't the best idea in July as it's cyclone season June - Nov. What about Dubai? That's pure luxury (personally not my kind of place as it's massively commercial, expensive and more touristy than cultural).0

Thanks. So you think the best offers will be out around Nov/Dec?
I don't fancy Dubai for the reasons you gave, plus it isn't far away enough! Maldives could be good although I think I'm leaning towards Thailand. My friends who've been there say its amazing although I am a bit concerned that a lads holiday to thailand might be completely different to taking the missus!0 -
Thailand is one of my favourite places in the world and can be very romantic in the right areas, but get the hell out of Bangkok as soon as you can...0

Depends where you go, we stayed on Phuket but not in the actual town and were glad we didnt when we saw it. We stayed at Cape Panwar http://www.capepanwa.com/ where Leonardo DiCaprio stayed when they were filming The Beach and we loved it, (we were not in the private bungalows like he was
)
We did 6 days in Singapore where we did all the cultural things LOL then 6 in Phuket where we vegged out.
Not our Honeymoon though, that was 3 nights in London in 1983 on a very strict budget :rotfl:Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -
If you both really fancy Australia, I would check it out and aim to go there, even if it was later in the year - maybe have one night somewhere posh but close to home after the wedding and the honeymoon three months later. This would have the benefit of not being all one big rush and your future wife might like some time off before the wedding, so may find it hard taking a long time off afterwards. It seems silly to go for second best just because of the time of year. Having said that, Expedia have a little destination guide when you key in the month which might give you some ideas.0

We went to Thailand for our honeymoon - 3 nights in Bangkok and then 10 nights at Layana Resort and Spa (so so lovely) on Ko Lanta.
Packaged up with Kuoni it was within your budget, but we booked independently for various reasons - one being that Layana do their own 7-night packages which include some meals and activities.
I'm not sure about the weather when you are going and I think it varies quite a bit depending on where in the country you are going, so definately check. However, it was wonderful, the people are great, the scenery is great, the food is great etc.
Australia - you would need to go north I would think to Queensland, even though it would be winter there it is not really cold, probably 20's.
I would suggest one of the Whitsunday islands for luxury. Hamilton is the biggest, but there are others that have no kids, which might be what you are after. I think Daydream is one of them. I would go all inclusive here as a) your options are very limited to dine away from the resort and b) it is pricey.
Not sure with flights and everything if it would fall within your budget, bearing in mind that flights to Oz could be anywhere between £600-£1000.
Hope that helps and have a great time wherever you go.0
