I doubt if you will get anywhere
Personally I would swallow the cost and think to myself £650 now, but just how much value has it added to my house and lowered my car insurance0 -

How can I explain this more clearly? Yes the actual physical work involved doesn't seem a lot but it's the risks associated with it that cost. If it settles sightly the contractor will have to come back and virtually do the whole job again. If the Highways Dept(or whoever) don't like it the contractor will have to come back and virtually do the whole job again. On top of which is the liability the contractor is taking on of anyone injuring themselves crossing their work, either during or for some considerable period after.A house isn't a home without a cat.

My daughter had this done and it cost £800 a lot of money but certainly worth it to get the household cars off the road onto her driveway... yes its a lot of money just depends on if you want to spend that much... and how beneficial it will be to you....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Go back to the council and tell them you want the work done but the quoted price is too high. Ask for them to re-cost the work. If they refuse ask them for details of their appeal procedure. They may then offer a lower amount ot save an appeal. You could also try speaking to your local councillor.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Whoo-hoo!
Figured out the pic posting problem,....situation as follows -
As you can see, to the right I already have a single access crossover - just need the highlighted (1 kerb and corner piece) sections adjusted to create the extension.
The Highways Agency/Council has permitted this to go ahead once I cough up the £570 readies....(£80 admin cheque fee has cleared now by the way!)
Remember, its not a full crossover to be constructed that I'm asking for - just an extension.
Is the job worth it....would you pay ? .....or how do I get them to reconsider lowering this cost?
Thanks all, LopoBeware Lego Men with Deep pockets...! :cool:0 -
From the look of that on the left is your driveway wall and possibly some recycleing bins:)
well it looks like the drive isnt long enough anyway.
Personally I'd rather set fire to my face and beat the flames out with a kerbstone than pay £650 quid to have that lengthened out0 -
Its big enough - that ireally is not a problem. The image focuses on displaying the existing kerb piece that I want moved. I already have 2 cars parked there.
Like I said - they have approved it - those bins are just there as it was collections day!Beware Lego Men with Deep pockets...! :cool:0 -
I got mine done last October. It cost us £520 by a builder who had been approved by the council.
However, if the pavements and kerbs are being relaid anyway they won't charge to lower the kerb if a householder asks. My next door neighbour asked for his to be lowered several years ago when the council were doing this. He has since changed his mind so he still has a wall around his garden and a lowered kerb.
I think it's very unreasonable considering they're doing the work anyway.0 -
We had the crossover extended, by 2 kerb lengths, two years ago. the work was done by the Council contractors whilst relayinf the footpath.
As we had an existing crossover, the cost was £70/kerbstone (£140 total). If there hadn't been an existing crossover, the cost would have been £350.
I have a receipt from the council for £119.15 + £20.85.VAT
A word of warning about having it done 'privately', in the process the contractor accidentally ripped out our Cable TV wiring. Fortunately, we no longer subscribed to Cable TV.
Hope this helps you to argue with the council. They who ride tigers cannot dismount at will.0 -
£650 for a little bit of kerb????
Fair enough if they were doing the whole thing from scratch, but jeez.
If they didn't bring the price down, then I wouldn't bother - you'v managed this long without it.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
