Hi Guys,

I have been on a contract for 18 months so could cancel it, got a pay as you go sim from another provider.

However when i try to put it in, "insert correct SIM card".

How do i get it to work for free, or do i have to take it to one of the dodgy shops in town :S

Thanks

  • sometimes you can download some software to do this via your own computer (having correct cable also).

if you're not comfortable with that idea (not doing it correctly can cause problems) then usually, those "dogdy" shops can usually do it in matter of moments for about a tenna. just make sure you back up everything on there - contacts, content etc. i've used shops quite a bit where its not been possible for me to do it myself - sometimes i've just not been comfortable and worried about bricking the phone but more often than not, its a fairly simple process.

you will not be able to do this for free. You have 3 options...

Call your operator for an unlock code (if out of contract.... they can also charge around £15 a pop - worth a check).

Buy the code off of an ebay seller for a silly amount

However I highly recommend: http://www.ultimateunlocker.co.uk/ used this countless times in the past - till I got my iPhone :)

This allows you to do the unlock from home - as long as you have the data cable supplied with the phone, the instructions are fool proof :) Just ensure your battery is fully charged before the unlocking commences.

I think I may have a spare unlock credit - worth a check. PM me and I will give you the account details - which I no longer need.

Unless you can guarantee the unlock - do not use shops - if your phone is using more up to date firmware the techniques used by some shops only temporary unlock the phone. So not worth the cash... (I learnt this the hard way!)

    Thanks,
I recon i'll just take it to a shop and pay £10ish for them to do it, cos its not worth a couple of quid for me to try do it when i'll clearly fluff the phone up. Thanks though!
