credit card charge claim problems

I paid a deposit to a Solar Energy Company and before they had started to install the System they wanted to install a new boiler costing £1000 I cancelled the work. They refused to refund the deposit, because I had invited then to do the job, it was a response to a dropped card. Tesco, the Credit Card Company, want documented proof, but it was all discussed on the telephone. My argument is; I paid a deposit of £2000 for a system which was not installed, therefore they are responsible to return my money. The company has gone into liquidation. Do I have a legal right to this money or not. I would appreciate an expert opinion if possible. I read in Which Magazine of someone with a similar problem who was successful because the lawyer showed that the contract was broken when the company wanted to do more that was originally agreed. Bye the way what does FOS stand for?
Thanks

I think you need to copy and paste this one into the credit cards part of the forum. This part is if you have incurred charges on the credit card account for default fees, overlimit fees or late fees.
