Annoying Automated Messages

Hi guys, im kind of a newbie around here but i've got a problem which i was hoping MSE experts/members could help out with... (hope this is the right subforum)

For the past few months i've been getting annoying automated phone messages which are pre-recorded adverts for applying for loans etc maybe once or twice a day.

Now its moved on to 4 or 5 a day! Its terrible, the phone rings and you answer and its some annoying recorded message of a lady saying hello, do you need financial assistance.. been refused a loan... aaaaaaaaargh, :mad:

Phoned Virgin Media who said that they couldnt do anything and perhaps buy a phone with caller ID.. .the cheek!

Thanks for your help in advance!

    Are you registered with the TPS? If they're loan companies, then they are probably UK based, so worth a try.

    Hi, I was the same and they are a real pain.:mad:

    The thing to do is actually listen to the message all the way to the very end, at some point it will say "press 9 (or whatever number) to opt out of receiving these calls" - do it it works, they can't ring you any more if you tell them not too.:T

    Every one I've listened to has been press 9 so you could try pressing 9 as soon as you answer if you can't bear to listen all the way through!!

    I have gone from 4-5 calls a day to more like 1 or 2 every couple of weeks!

    Hope this helps!!!

    "Automated calls

    We may be able to help if:
    1. you have received a pre-recorded marketing message;
    2. you can identify the caller;
    3. the caller is based in the UK; and
    4. you have not previously consented to the call.
    If you cannot identify the caller, we will be unable to pursue the matter."
