Triband 43 element wideband aerial ..no signal even analogue.help....

I have just recieved a new aerial from Maplins.I bought a wideband 43 element one to get best chance of a signal in the loft.I want an aerial to go in the loft to supply my daughters bedroom only.We have a main one for the living room. Its already split once and thought this would be cheaper than getting someone out to put a 4 way splitter and booster on my man aerial. Also OH hates heights,so putting it in the loft was only choice.
Hes tried this evening and it isnt even picking up analogue channels. The main 4 channels are showing etremely fuzzy straight into the tv but through the freeview box nadda.
We are near Emley moor transmitter and Belmont.

Can anyone give me any advise without mind boggling jargon please?
Also is it the aerial lacking or the husband messing up?
As hes not confident on which it is,him or aerial.

Hopefully here is a link of the aerial i have purchased.

Thankyou in advance.xx

Nope as a new user i can not put the link up ggrrr.

If you really are 'near' Emley with line-of-sight to the tower, then a Group B aerial for the loft is best, like an X10B

Assuming OH has aligned it correctly to point at the nearest transmitter (not easy to do in a loft) and has set it up with the correct polarisation (i.e. the side vanes need to point in the same way as your existing aerial), the next most likely issue is a stray wire from the outside shielding of the cable shorting in the plug to the core.

The shield wires are very fine, so it's easy to do almost invisibly.

Fwor Il pass on that he needs to get it pointing same as the main mast aerial.Thanks.It doesnt look like the above picture as the element part is in triplicate. The reason i bought this one was it stated that there was no putting together as such.Just putting up.Is the plug the f thingy? He had to go to wickes and buy that, sorry i really am a technophobe when it comes to aerials.
Il tell him to check the wire too.

amcluesent not sure how close we are ,not from round here. But wolfbane stated belmont and emley moor, and husband said he knew that when i told him id looked it up.

Is there any suggestion as to whether this aerial should work?
    Thankyou in advance x

yep he says hes got those two,and they fit so im assuming its either the aerial itself or positioning.oh hes just told me to ask, could it be anything to do with the fact he had to join the cable up in the middle?Cheers guys,i lost my patients with it about ten minutes in.

There will be a very small signal loss if this is done properly. Of course if it isn't done properly.....

What do you mean? I hope you mean one of the Belling Lee connectors, the end of the cable going into the DD TV. The 'F' connector should be no where the installation.

    >join the cable

Not a Pro then. Start again.

An F type connector IS required to connect the co-ax to the aerial here.

Hes got about 10 channels by wiring it to main aerial. He gave up on the new aerial for now, seeing as hes doing it after coming in from work,so hell probably go play with it again on weekend.Oh i hope he doesnt break something. He leveled the toilet last week, made it leak for ages before he put it right.I hate him getting bored, haha.xx

FIRSTLY THANKYOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED

SECONDLY after getting so irritated with the aerial ,i made OH take it back to Maplins.Nearest one being Doncaster.Bit of a treck but not rediculous.
When he got there the guy was really confused, saying it was the second best aerial in the store. And that it should work ANYWHERE!!!
So he asked if it could be the wire etc.The guy suggested making sure the copper thread inside was touching the plug.UUmmm NO it wasnt.
So i gt a phonecall of OH asking if he should try again.Needless to say, this time he heard a noise on connection, and every channel bar channel 5 popped up,and thats only because its a second hand really old freeview box.But it will do her til she gets her new tv at xmas as its built in now.
Sooo happy as it would have been such a waste of money and time if it hadnt:T:T worked.:T:T:T:T:T:T:T
