Income based JSA claim and small injury payment ?

Hi does anyone know if when i apply for income based jsa as my contributions are running out in september will it be affected by the fact that two months ago i finally received £6,000 compensation for a car accident i was in three years ago which i have used mostly to pay back debts and buy the kids essentials i have very little left and it is itemised for particular debts already. Will it mean i cant get jsa and therefore not housing benefit as i will be stuffed if it does.
Any ideas another panic i could do without as its bad enough being unemployed.

  • I have a feeling (but not certain)that compo money isnt counted for 12 months,I may be wrong.
Anyway if not as long as your savings havent been above £6000 means tested benefits arent affected, between £6k and £16k you lose £1 for ecey £250,i.e. £7000 loses you £4 per week.
  • thanks i do hope you are right cant cope with any more stress !! not as if the money has been "enjoyed" just been spent catching up, and buying beds and clothes for kids unless you count one night away in a B and B in the hope of saving my relationship as i have been so down since losing my job.
    Thanks so much for replying

It is disregarded for 52 weeks and £6,000 wont mean much fo a deduction anyway.
  • thanks so much still struggling with debts too just hope i get job im interviewing for next week so had enough of all this. If i had nt lost my job that money was supposed to have paid ALL my debts off and taken everyone on a holiday. Anyway im lucky i guess even though my hip is !!!!!!ed.
