I can think of around......0 occasions I have had a lunch break in the past five years I have been self-employed.
Makes me nostalgic though to think of all the boozy afternoon-long 'lunch meetings' I used to have with clients and colleagues in the City. There used to be a street named after Chuck Norris, but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives.0 -

Hi Tinytim
I have my OR Interview on 11 September and it's a face to face one. Do they do this as a matter of course if you are self employed?
It sounds as though I am in similar situation to you - I have been a self employed recruitment consultant and the climate just killed my business. I am so nervous about the interview and most of the people on this forum tend to have telephone interviews - any further info or advice that you can give me would be very welcome.
I must add that my business was the main cause of the BR - the tax and vat in particular but that I also had a personal loan and CC - was your situation similar and if so, how much attention was paid to your personal account rather than your business one? I have so many questions and any advice you can give me will be very gratefully received.
Tadsa
Hi Tadsa,
Sorry for delay in getting back to you.
It sound as if our circumstances are very similar indeed. Approximately 60% of my indebtedness was down to directors guarantees with the balance being a large number of credit cards and loans. Most of the credit cards and loans had been taken to try and keep the business going, with the rest being the classic robbing Peter to pay Paul. The OR asked lots of questions about the background to the business, what happened to staff, when things started to go wrong etc etc.
He did ask what various loans and credit cards were taken for, but in most cases these were debt consolidation and he very quickly got the idea. I mentioned that we had gone on a foreign holiday in 2003, and a number of other minor purchases, but he was satisfied that we had not been living a life of luxury at the expense of our creditors.
One of the advantages of it being a f2f interview is that he or she can assess whether you are being open and honest with them - and we were. There was no discussion at all over my income and expenditure, except for him telling me that I should let him know as soon as my profits from new venture exceed my estimate. He did spend a little time telling me how important the restrictions of BR were, including having influence in the management of a company or tading in a name other than your own - I think he thought I was more entreprenurial than is the case.
The discussion around my vehicle was very short, and I was allowed to keep it. We discussed the house and the possibility of buying BI, especially if in negative equity (which we think it is). However, he did say that he would be looking for the full value of any interest which did exist with no discount. I really didn't worry before going for the interview, as I had decided to be absolutely honest and take whatever came. I think this must have come over as the whole process was very easy indeed

My OR interview was very similar to Tinytim's, they just wanted to make sure I hadn't taken out money knowing that I couldn't pay it back. I took 5 years worth of statements etc with me - it filled 2 large bags and was heavy - they sent me back home with most of it so they were satisfied that they wouldn't find anything out of order (who keeps 5 years of statements for goodness sakes!?). If you can't remember anything just say so.

Iv'e got 10 years of them, how sad is that. When I mentioned my files, suitcases full of documents and 10 lever arch full of other related details, they told me to forget sending anything, a phone call will do:jBetter to be poor than a slave to wealth
