@Hintza - that's the exception I'd make, so long as people explain the way they want to work in the auction description it's not a problem. However it's very rare that i've seen that sort of thing outside of ebay shops and businesses using ebay. As with most things, it's the uncertainty that's the problem.

Also - I've never seen a 'notification of dispatch' email - is that just a suggested template?

No its on the pro seller thingy; they give you a few templates (which I don't change) to cover most emails.

As a seller, I do not leave feedback until my buyer has done so. My buyer leaving feedback signals they are happy, and doesn't leave me open to undeserved negs.

As a buyer, I leave feedback when I have received the goods. Just as I wld expect as a seller.

There is no real answer to this. Feedback is optional so its not a case of who should leave it first, its a case of who does leave it first. If you don't get any then don't worry but if they do neg you for some strange reason then you can reply to their f/b.

  • As a buyer, I leave feedback when I've received the goods and they are as described.

As a seller who is confident in the quality of the items they sell, I leave feedback when the buyer has paid. Except when the buyer is a newbie or has some suspicous negatives (basically, if there is an increased probability of the buyer being a troublemaker), I may wait til after they have left it.

Sellers who leave feedback after are much more likely to be the ones that sell sub-standard goods, take ages to deliver, be hard to communicate with etc. and get away with it.

By not leaving feedback first a mediocre/poor seller can:
    - retaliate by giving the buyer an unfair negative for 'daring' to neg the seller, even if rightfully. They may claim the buyer is a liar, didn't pay etc.
    - avoid feedback from the transaction which would have otherwise been neutral or negative because they buyer does not want to risk receiving an unfair retaliatory negative.
    - gain positive feedback when the buyer leaves a positive but is not completely happy, due to the buyer not wanting to risk receiving an unfair retaliatory negative. Or the buyer wanting to increase their rating so will give a positive so they will get one back from the seller.

The seller should leave feedback first once they've got their money. Then the buyer leaves feedback once they've received their goods and are happy with them.

Any seller that doesn't leave feedback first is just holding back so that they can 'revenge-neg' the buyer if everything goes tits-up.
After a few years of selling I disagree with this. The buyer should leave feedback once they are happy with the item. Then the seller leaves feedback.

    I agree with shelly.

If I buy, I always pay quickly so expect good feedback. Normaly it happens.
When the feedback doesn't arrive I can understand. As a seller you are dubious of the buyers expectations.

Infact I have a problem with a seller who has left me postive feedback.

I am in a akward position. The item was in the worst condition totally unuseable. But as I have had friendly comunication with the seller, I find it hard to leave neutral although it deserves negative feedback
(By the way excuse any spelling errors. My computer will not download the new spellcheck on this site:confused: )
