automatic regular comparisons

Hi,

We all know about comparison sites where you input your location, current tariff, usage, and it tells you the cheapest one.

But it's annoying to have to remember to manually check this every so often. I have heard of sites that will let you save your energy profile. But there must be one that will run a search on your behalf every day (or when a tariff changes) and email you when there is a cheaper option.

It would make things so much easier. And this way you can switch at the earliest point possible. Considering there is so much competition between comparison sites for traffic I'd be surprised if no-one has done this yet. If not, it could be gold-mine in referrals for someone.

Can't beieve it would be economically viable - comparison sites effectively work on commission - you have to assume that currentlythe majority of people visiting such sites do switch - what you're suggesting would involve multiple ongoing comparisons for the same person with much less likelihood of a switch.

What I would like to see on comparison sites is,

Do you have an Economy 7 meter - yes/no
Would you like an Economy 7 tariff - yes/no

Hopefully you would only get quoted from companies who would let you have a non E7 tariff even though you have a E7 meter.
That would then give people like me the comparison to switch from an E7 tariff to a non E7 tariff.

There seems to be an assumption that the comparison websites exist to provide a service.

They don't - they exist to get commission from people switching.

Take the post above on E7 meters.

Some companies will allow you to go on a non E7 tariff even with an E7 meter. However that is not always the case if the customer wants to change between E7 and non E7 frequently. i.e. non E7 in summer and E7 in winter.

Some companies charge for an E7 meter(or removal) others usually don't but will charge for some customers.

There is no way the comparison websites can cover all these possibilities - even if they wanted to spend the time researching the situation.
