Sorry, I did a quick search for "Barclaycard" before posting, obviously I hadn't set the date range quite far back enough.

I have made household purchases using a Barclaycard over the last few years as it was possible to extend the warranty by one year free of charge by registering the purchase with Barclaycard. This seemed to me to be a better benefit than offers such as cashback from other cards.

Yesterday I bought a dishwasher on my Barclaycard only to find today that the extended warranty arrangements have been withdrawn. I could have had better benefits by using other credit cards I hold. I pay off the entire balance each month so interest rates are not relevant.

I spoke to Barclaycard Customer Services today to complain about the lack of information and they claimed that a leaflet had been sent out about this in December 2004, but that many customers had been caught out and were unhappy about the situation.

I believe that major changes of this sort should be advertised properly - it's arguable that the tiny typeface used in their leaflets is in breach of the Disability Discrimination Act! - so that customers are not caught unawares.

I have found details of this in this forum so well done, Martin. Wish I'd read it before making the purchase!

If you like the Extended Warranty benefit, it is still being offered on several cards. Two that come to mind are the Nationwide and Citibank credit cards. The Nationwide card also has cashback too.
