Why would it invalidate your car insurance? I have driven many times with large items in my boot. Beds, chest of drawers, dishwasher etc. That's what cars are for.
Done the same, and with a washing machine !

Absolute rubbish, I have never heard anything of the sort. It's nowhere in my t&c's about what I can and can't transport in my car.0
