AA breakdown cover

Options
Your thoughts appreciated

I have recently joined the AA through their website opting to pay by direct debit every month. Silly me...

When signing up on the site and providing my details it also asks to provide debit card details to confirm that you are the account holder, or so I thought.

I received a welcome letter from the Automobile association stating that my first direct debit would come out on 29th August. The same day I received a letter from my bank stating the a guaranteed payment had been made on 13th August to the AA and giving me a bank charge.

I have questioned this with the AA and they state that it says on the site that there will be an immediate payment taken, although their unhelpful representative was unable to show me where. (It does not say anything in the T&Cs about this either).

Following this up with the AA again I am told it is under a hyperlink on the quotes page. I have now found this but my question is

Is it acceptable to have information such as this under a hyperlink? There are 12 hyperlinks on this page alone as well as the T&Cs. Are we really expected to read every hyperlink on every page of these sites?

Unhappy at this I asked to cancel my cover within the 30 day cooling off period and was told that I could cancel but they would charge a £20 administration fee. Is this legal under the distance selling regulations?

I no longer trust this company, am I right or not? So far I have lost £46 and I haven't ever broken down.

I once broke down in Cannon Street, London, blocking one of two lanes in the rush hour. I waited 3 hours for these !!!!!!!s to turn up. Never again.

I paid a 1 off fee for a yearly membership with AA a few years ago, then the cheeky barstewards then deducted almost double for the following year, despite it not being a DD, and despite not even sending a renewal letter.

They then wanted an extortionate amount to cancel! I did eventually get all my money back, and have never used them since!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
