hope to get some advice here.I had a bad accident at work 2 years ago.it involved a fall and left me with 2 bulging vertebre(according to the ct scan)I have had chronic back pain and pins and needles down my leg ever since.I claimed and firms insurance company held up their hands and admitted full liability.im taking 4 types of tablets per day a total of 14 tabs.went to specialist clinic few weeks back and they are going to use injections to cut down on tabs.they dont recommend surgery because at my age 50 they say at best it may improve a little but likely do nothing.claims going to be settled(i hope ) before xmas.as I was medically retired last xmas and consultant says I wont work again(getting £500 permonth)pension was earning £1800 per month before.lost a great job which I loved.any ideas on what I can hope for??

Have you not asked your solicitor, who should have a good idea of what you will be offered?0

If it was me, the least I'd be looking for would be £1800/month until pension age, thats another 15 years ( assuming your a man), plus the amount needed to cover your pain and suffering. Then again you can say that even after your pension age, you wouldn't have the same quality of life if you hadn't hurt yourself, so you might be able to get a lot more.
It'll add up to a tidy wee amount. All the best with it anyhow!0 -
thanks nar I did ask solicitor a few times got same answer,...........it depends on many factors we cant really do guesswork.etc.......:rolleyes:0

I know it sounds like the old story but its not for myself im asking.I had a real good job wife and 2 great children.year after the accident wife left with the kids.she just couldnt put up with me at home.before I was out every morning at 7.am home about 6 or 7 at night 6 days a week, money was good(though I worked for it)now our home will be on the market soon, cant keep up the payments but I want to make sure wife and kids are looked after.id really love to know why it takes solicitors so long to sort things out.I mean 2 years?0

Doesn't sound like you have a suitable solicitor. How can he advise you, if you get made an offer, whether you should accept or not? Claims solicitors tend to be specialists in this field and very often there a a number of offers made to try and avoid going to court (thus avoiding costs). The person you rely on in these circumstances has to be your solicitor, so to say he can't advise on a ballpark figure rings alarm bells for me.thanks nar I did ask solicitor a few times got same answer,...........it depends on many factors we cant really do guesswork.etc.......:rolleyes:0 -

think the solicitors are a reputable firm,im told by them they have to take into account loss of earnings and the drop in my pension because I had to retire so early.they also say they have appointed council for me,I assume thats a Qc?and they have a forensic accountant
looking at my potential loss regarding my pension. Now thats a new one on me,I only ever heard of forensic people investigating crimes!!!! 0 -
.....year after the accident wife left with the kids.she just couldnt put up with me at home...
completely sympathise with you mate but re above comment..... What ever happened to; "In sickness And In Health, Till Death Us Do Part" ????
Obviously I don't know the whole circumstances but I think it's bang out of order the missus leaving in such circumstances... shame on her
No disrespect but I wouldn't give her a penny... Sure anything the kids need by all means get it for them but I'd make sure I buy it for them and give it to them... the very fact that she left when you would have needed her most... can't believe that...0 -
So why can't they tell you it COULD be between £Xk and £Yk?

So why can't they tell you it COULD be between £Xk and £Yk?

I think they are a bit like doctors in this respect.when my late mum was in her last year suffering from cancer the family asked the consultant how long she had to go.his reply was if you think I can tell you that you have been watching to much holby city.he did narrow it down to 6 months and was wrong she died 5 weeks later.think thats why they wont quote on this in case it doesnt come out as they expect and I then give off to them....................0
