I`ve finally got a ceiling airer but ....

I`ve been after one for ages and was given one at the weekend :T.
Now i know you have to scew the things into joists in the ceiling but how can we find were the joists are without sticking holes all over the ceiling :D.
We live in a pre 1919 terraced house btw .
thanks :o

Think you have to first figure out which way the joists run, i.e. from front to back or side to side. It helps if you can lift the carpets upstairs I think. Then they sort of run at regular intervals across the ceiling. I can ask my hubby if you like, when he gets in from work. He fitted mine for me and its FAB.

I just bung the clothes in the tumble drier for about ten minutes to get the steam going, then the creases fall out, and with some nifty folding and smoothing, pop them on the airer while they are wet and warm, and they dry without needing an iron. I know its expensive running a tumble drier, but at least I save myself the bother of ironing most things. I still have to press a few bits and bobs but usually most things dont need it.
:hello:  please play nicely children !

that age of house should have centres at 400mm. (16inches).
tapping the ceiling should give a dull sound when finding the joists. pricking with a long thin spike will then give you the exact position.
(sharpen a small screwdriver to a point if required).
    Get some gorm.
