guilty

ive been lurking for a while but just signed up now

my problem is that im feeling very quilty about my DLA at the min and i was wondering if anyone ever felt the same

i get DLA for OCD, dysthymia, IBS and some other stuff

i get very paranoid, i only left the house today to walk my dog for 10 mins, i pulled my hood up over my head and avoided going anywhere where people might be able to look at me and see how horrible i look

my IBS is really bad at the minute and my oh had to look after me, helping to clean me up and reassure me

i always think the police are after me and ive just even had to change the channel coz heartbeat came on and i couldnt bear to see the police on it, i know that sounds really daft, doesnt it?

im just really down today and feeling really guilty about all the people with bad physical problems who cant get DLA and i should just shake myself and get on with it, my friend needs a walking stick and she still does stuff

it seems like all these benefit fraud adverts are aimed at me but i dont claim anything else

If you're getting DLA, it's because your condition warrants it. Nothing to feel guilty about.

That said, I felt guilty at first, when I started getting DLA, and I actually cried when I had my last review and they put my award up.

IBS is a horrid condition to live with, and you have other problems as well - it's not all about whether you have a walking stick or not, you know.

Sounds like you have a supportive OH, so that's a good thing.

Feel free to join in the "Black Dog of Depression" thread when you're feeling down; you'll be made welcome.:o

i felt the same when i recived high rate for my son because he can walk and looks so called normal , now i just acccept it
  • I have had IBS most of my life and it is unbearable, many people do not understand how embarrasing and painful it can be.

I also have a son who I get dla for as he is autistic and when I was awarded it I felt guilty but it has changed his life and we can do more with him.

There are lots of people out there that are using the system fraudulently and We are Not.

    Take it easy.

You were awarded that money because you need it. :D

Can totally understand the guilty feeling. My problems are mainly physical, amongst other things I use a wheelchair most of the time, and crutches for very short amounts of walking, I still feel guilty, I fought for my DLA, but since my incap. benefit's been taken from me after an awful medical I feel like a fraud. My DLA has changed my life, what I can do, how I can do it. But that doesn't always make it easier to accept... You're not alone in feeling this way, but it's the reaction towards us and the way we're treated that makes people feel this way.

Don't feel guilty hun :) I've just applied for DLA for mental health problems and i think part of what put me off was feeling guilty for it, but at the end of the day you're entitled to the help and no-one should make you feel bad for that. I can empathise with the feeling paranoid about people seeing you and thinking nothing's wrong, as i feel the same a lot of the time.

  • hi, this is my first post so hope im doing it right.

i 2 feel guilty all the time about claiming dla,i have chrons and havnt been able to work for 5yrs now. i had dla awarded to me for the past 4yrs,but this yr it was refused saying im not ill enough to qualify!! i have of course appealed and a now waiting for the tribunal date to come through. as you can guess this is extremaly stressfull which makes the chrons worse! i am going through hell just now and i get really upset at people that see me and becouse i dont look ill then i should be out at work. i dont understand why some people only go on face value, you should never judge someone untill you walk a day in there shoes!

stay strong crazy girl, and all those people who do judge dont matter, the people who know you and love you are the only ones who truely know you and love you

    take care
    xx
