Hi im using v media broadband, with a modem (not wireless or anything like that)
currently there is one wire that runs from modem (motorola SB5100) to my pc, another wire (looks like coax cable) from modem to virgin feed (coming from outside house, i think) and the power cable from modem to wall.
i need to set up a router, so i purchased the tp-link (tl-r402m) and all i want to do is connect another device (satellite etc) AND my pc to the router so both things can be on the internet at sametime....
but im stuck on what/how to go about it, i have tried unplugging the (rj45) from the motorola modem into the tp-link router, but it does not work. i tried unplugginf the rj45 from my pc and putting that inot the router but it does not work?!
im lost, have i bought the wrong router?
any advice please?
thanks....

Virgin co-ax feed
> Modem
> Router WAN
Then connect the PC etc. to the routers LAN ports.
After installation power down modem for a minute and then power up again, wait for modem LEDS to settle and then power up the router followed by the PC. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

im not sure if i understood that fully....
the coax feed is always in the modem, so i left that. i unplugged the rj45 from the modem and put it into the router (WAN port)....
i then powered off the modem, and turned it back on...and also turned the router on aswell, but it was still not letting me connect to the internet?! saying there is something wrong with the conection?!
i'm obviously still doing something wrong but nor sure what....

You didn't mention connecting the router LAN port to the PC.
The motorola SB5100 has two ports, USB and Ethernet. Did you use the Ethernet port before you connected the router up? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

sorry for the confusion mate, but im really not sure what all the cables and ports are....
all i can say is the usb on my sb5100 is empty, there are only three things plugged into the modem....the coax, the power cable and the rj45 (looks like a telephone connector)
the rj45 type wire runs from the modem to the back of my pc, if i unplug the modem end....and put it into the WAN port on my new router AND then unplug the other end of the rj45 (from my pc) and plug it into the LAN ports, then this in effect is the same wire going from the WAN to the LAN on the router....i thought that couldnt be right, surely?!
thanks for all your help mate...0 -

No leave the cable connected to the modem, unplug the other end of that cable from the PC and connect to the WAN port on the router.

Then use another cable from a LAN port on the router to your PC:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
You may also need to run some setup software on your PC.
A disk may have been included with the wireless router.0 -

No software is supplied with the router and setup software is not required for routers.
The routers configuration screens can be accessed by entering http://192.168.1.1 into the browsers address bar.
The supplied CD does have a User Guide on it though, which should be read! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
