I have just noticed that when I log into my yahoo email just beneath the heading I have the word Anzeige. I have recently been getting a lot of emails in my bulk folder does any techie have any ideas?

Can you give any further explanation .. where exactly is the word? Are you using the new 'outlook' style interface or the old interface? 'Anziege' is German for 'Advertisement' (I think) maybe it is just something that can not be displayed .. but why in German?
I am a great fan of Yahoo mail and have been using it for many years, their spam filter is pretty good.

Thanks for replying IvanOpinion. The word is where the ads go but I have never noticed this before. Looking today sometimes it says advertisement or another time Anzeige. Noticed this as well when husband opened his email. What worries me more is that my bulk folder is full of messages for example Joe Bloggs cant let you know correct names or subject as have deleted them. I did open one yesterday which was from China. Frightened to open any more. Perhaps when I get any more later today I can give more info.
Should I open them?0 -
I think that what is possibly happening is that sometimes it is not rendering the advert and instead of displaying the picture etc. it is simply displaying the alternate text associated with the picture which is 'advertisement'. I would be concerned though as to why it is in German.
Have you by any chance put your email adress up onto a chatboard anywhere? There are little blighters going around the web the actively seek out email addresses and start spamming them ... I did a test once, created a new email address, posted it onto a forum and within 20 minutes I got my first spam. It should be OK to open the emails in Yahoo mail because it has virus detectors built in but I think you will find the majority of them are just rubbish and can be deleted.

Thanks Ivan. I have just checked my email and in bulk there is Anna Banks Subject Unfortunate printer Size of folder 53k but am now more concerned that in my inbox there is Edward Rogers Subject War size of folder 53k. I use this particular email address for business only and a different one for comps and chat forums. The only thing I can think of is that recently I signed up for ciao survery as recommended by another MSE but using my alternate email and I believe that is a german website so dont have an answer.0

Hi Ivan
You mention getting emails by logging on to Chat Forums. I realise that the email being affected was the one I used when first signing up to this Chat Forum it is the only Chat Forum I use.0 -
what I mean is creating a post that says something like ... 'send me the information at myname@somewhere.co.uk' ... if you put it into free text format then it can be picked up (in fact I will put a bet on that 'myname@somewhere.co.uk' gets spammed before 15:00 this afternoon).
The 'bots' can be pretty clever and I suppose it is possible that something got intercepted. It could also be down to something at CIAO getting intercepted or one of the competition sites you mention. If you don't recognise the sender always treat it with caution and never open attachments (although yahoo will virus check them and stop you opening them if necessary).
