best credit card for airmiles?

Options
My first time in this section so please be easy on me if this is an obvious question but . . . . . . .
Which credit card is offering the best deal on air miles at the moment?
We are about to buy a house and will be spending quite a bit of cash (£10K deposit for a start) soon and over the next 10 months . Balance transfer to go from MNBA £1600 and probable another £10k spend before March 2006 . Ideally I`d like to earn enough FREE air miles for a trip to Canada in Dec/Jan for the 4 of us
Don`t know if this is possible so any helping hands would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

  • Hmm BMI would be a good start and the fee paying Virgin Atlantic card is also good.

I suppose the best question would be, what airline are you thinking of using on your travels?

for 4 free flights to North America using Star Alliance air miles (i.e. bmi), you would need 180,000 air miles. Lets put this into perspective - I only have 135,000 air miles from flying 3 times a month since last June, with a lot of those fares being business class and premium economy - therefore earning tonnes of air miles on the flight and from purchasing expensive tickets and household stuff. No way you are going to get that within the next 6 months, which is when you will need to book by. I wanted a return to Montreal in winter 04/05, and ended up having to get my flight back home from Halifax due to no availability.

Spending about £3000 a month = 3000 air miles basically. So that would take 5 years to save for!

Also, the bmi card is provided by MBNA, and you appear to have one already. So you would need to reduce the credit limit on that to get a good one on a bmi. But you wouldnt be able to balance transfer from one MBNA to another.

You would be very lucky to be able to pay for a mortgage deposit on a CC!
