Using coupons in TESCO!!!!!!

i've got a question...

ive seen so many posts indicating coupons and vouchers can be scanned at Tesco.

BUT i don't know exactly what/how to do this..

do you hand over the coupons to the cashier to scan?.. (even though you have'nt bought the product?!!!)

There is another way of using your vouchers at Tescos and that is by using the self-scanning machines. I don't because my local store doesn't have any.

I just hand over my collection of vouchers and the cashier will scan them. I have noticed though that they are tightening up on duplicate vouchers so if you have 4 vouchers for dog food or 4 assorted vouchers you are more likely to have success with the 4 assorted ones.

I have at least £10 a week off my shopping bill using vouchers so as they say "Every Little Helps"
;) I am the only Voucher Queen in my village LOL ;)

Actually, self scanning machines have never accepted mine.
I don't think they allow them to be used with these as people can keep the vouchers after they have been scanned. If you hand them over to a cashier person, you don't get them back.

There is a sensor in the slot that you are meant to put them in. If you dont insert it then it doesnt authorise the coupon.

No wonder some stores won't let the self scanning machines take coupons if some people want to reuse coupons - how are Tesco supposed to get their money back?

In my experience, the self scanners need you to have actually bought the product, whereas most check-out operators will accept them even if you haven't (in sensible amounts mind you - rule of thumb is no more then 10% of bill, and not more than one voucher for products not purchased)

Self scanners have a sensor and if you don't deposit the voucher the whole thing comes to a stop until an assistant comes over (I speak from experience here - and no, I wasn't trying to keep my 10p off coupon for next time, it just got stuck in the machine so it didn't think it had been deposited...)

Tesco in Horfield Bristol let me use vouchers without the product

Tesco Eastville (next to Ikea in Bristol) don't let you use vouchers without buying the product.

I tried both these stores last week.

My local Tesco stores have differing policies :-

one has a 5 coupon per transaction rule, another has a 1 coupon per transaction rule (Though usually the cashiers will put through 3 or 4), another doesn't seem to care what I hand over.....

I believe each store has a local policy set by the store manager, in which they can over-rule the Tescos main policy if they so desire.

I find that not being too obvious - i.e. handing over a big bundle of coupons in one go - works best at our stores. I do smaller, more frequent shops now to get the best benefit.

My local Tescos seem to take any coupon. The self-scanners also work fine. Today, I used a Sainsburys £3 off a £30 spend in the SS, and then a young lad (always go to them following the tips on here) took a £1 off a magazine coupon from a newspaper, a tescos £4 off a £40 spend, and EIGHT Daz vouchers (worth £4.50), despite my not buying any Daz.:D
  • I have noticed in my store that only certain SA's will take them.
