Tip for holiday spending money

This is probably something that people have already thought of but I thought I'd post anyway as I've found this quite useful. I'm going on holiday to Portugal at the end of May (my first holiday in over two years). Our accomodation is free and my flight was paid for as we're going to stay with family. But, as you'll see from my signature I'm in a fair amount of debt so was really worried about how we would afford any spending money (this is one of the main reasons I don't tend to go on holiday). So for my birthday my family were going to give me cash as they always know that money is a bit tight but I always manage to fritter it away rather than putting it to good use. This year however, they gave me money in Euros. It's still sitting there, waiting to be spent on my holiday, which it wouldn't have been if I'd been given sterling! ;)

Sorry if this is obvious, but I've found it really useful. It only works if you're lucky enough to be given cash for things like birthdays and christmas though.

I think this is a really sweet idea for a gift (although not very money saving  ). I was going to New York for New Year a while ago and my big bro gave me dollars for Christmas. It was the most thoughtful gift he had ever given me!

My bil gave my kids $20 for Easter as we are off to the U.S in July for 2 weeks. They started getting excited about it then and talking about what they will do while they are there. It does make a difference and a great gift.
