Credit Card compromised

We had a call from Goldfish Credit Card stating our credit card had been compromised and they where stopping our cards and sending out new ones. The caller would not give any details of what had happened so we started wondering if this was a genuine phone call from Goldfish.
I found the article below today, the question is why can't Goldfish (Mastercard) be upfront and tell us what is happening. I had to scour the internet looking for information wondering if we were the only people this has happened to. Thank goodness we have another credit card we can use.
