Thailand - advice please!

Hi there,

I posted a few days ago about a deal I found to Thailand in August this year, thanks for all the responses. The deal was £585 for 4 nights in Bangkok and 8 nights in Phuket (3 star accomodation).

Since then I have found cheap flights, with Etihad Airways via Abu Dhabi for £459. This is flights only to BKK, and wondered whether it would be better value waiting till I arrive in Phuket to find a hotel? My sister travelled there 2 summers ago, but has just left the country this morning so I can't ask... ahhh! Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks - S :j

  • Why not learn "Muay Thai" at the same time ?

    A week's training and Bungalow would cost +/- £101

You don't have to go to the training if you don't want to, but will meet a lot of really nice people there ? ( I went as well and had a GREAT time ! )

I would say wait till you go over for accomodation as it is dirt cheap. When i was there we paid £60 for transport to pattaya( beach resort south of bangkok) from bangkok and 5 nights in a hotel that was over a good standard worked out at about £10 a night. This was through tthe thai tourist authority
  • £60 for transport ?!?!??

    You mean £6, right? ( Please !? )

As it is the rainy season it will be easy to find cheap accommodation. Pre-book your 1st night then look around at your leisure. Flights will start to become expensive around Christmas through to March/April which is high season in Thailand.

My advice for what it's worth:

It depends on the accomodation you want. Yes it is easy to get accomodation for £10 a night but it will not be accomodation you will find in brochures in the UK. If you are looking at the same hotel as in a brochure or website here you are unlikely to get it cheaper in Thailand. In some instance s though I know I will regret saying that.

Look at the flight costs and accomodation you are offered in the UK. As you have already done, check your flight costs doing it independently - as you already have done- as this will be the biggest cost.

Check the hotel details against www.tripadvisor.com to see what people have said about the hotel.

Check the hotel prices in Thaland against http://www.asiarooms.com to see what the rooms cost. Asiarooms operate by going to Thai hotel room wholesalers and do get good rates.

Then decide with the information you have. Hotels in Thailand are to a high standard. If you try and find something when you are out there do remember that this will take sometime out of your holiday.

Do whatever you think is best and have a good time.
