Help! Halifax insulted me!

Hi, Can anyone please help and give me some advise.

Im claiming financial hardship as i was made redundant 13 weeks ago, my wife doesn't work either as we have 2 babies. My bank charges are £7110 and Halifax asked me to fill in a financial statement which ive done, waited 3 weeks and a letter has just arrived.......

In view of your current financial circumstances, to help you i would like to offer you a payment of £140!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are they having a laugh!

Rang them up and asked if they'd made a mistake and they said that is their final offer.

Ive just wrote to them in hope they might look at it again and i have logged a complaint with the ombudsman who are sending me something out to sign and send back then they will look into it for me.

Can anyone tell me what to do next please?

Many thanks Lee

How many charges did you receive in the last 13 weeks(I suspect that the figure quoted is the amount)?
Do you have priority debt arrears?
When were the children born?(there maybe another avenue to explore so that is why I am asking).

Did you get charges from February 2008? How did the charges impact on your ability to pay priority debts(mortgage. councilt tax, utilities)?

Please do not tell me you are paying off arrears(cos it kinda goes against you)?

He means was it the fact that you had charges that you became in debt, was it the banks fault and if you had not been charged all that cash would things have been ok?
    Owed out = lots.
  • Yes, if they hadn't charged me all that money i wouldn't be in as much mess as i am now, over 7 grand is a lot of money to me

Not exactly fault but how firstly a lifestyle change, ie a new baby could lead to charges because of extra expense or even loss of income. The charges being taken out might then have an effect on your ability to pay back priority debt arrears and that leads to financial hardship as a direct result.
Paying back arrears suggests that there is additional income unused allowing you to repay arrears and therefore not financial hardship.

As an aside, charges claims can go back to 27th July 2001 ;)

Fill out a expenses form and detail EVERYTHING in it, that way you will get your final response but you need to get the office where to send it to address, if its Lloyds TSB well i have found out they have told everyone Andover office is where to send complaints, but i recently found out the REAL office is in hove, Andover send the cases to the Hove office when being taken seriously, my recent letter came from the Hove office i will give you the address if your claiming from Lloyds, don't send to Andover they really mess people about there.

Argue as I have said in the previous post, ie lifestyle event, new baby leading to this leading to that and inability to pay priority debts and then loss of job leading to further financial hardship. Ask them for a final response and we will see where we go from here. Accept BUT negotiate, ok?
