Video Camcorder help needed!

I am trying to buy a camcorder for my partner and there is a confusing array of choice out there! I need the camcorder for holidays/special events and would like an easy to use model. Ideally the camcorder would be around £200 and relatively compact. I am very confused as to the memory format and think hard drive or memory stick is the way to go - but I am not sure which is better. Can anyone offer any advice on a good model which fits this criteria?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Mini DV tape is still the best picture quality wise, but can be fragile, as I found out to my cost.
Hard disk/memory card are about the same (providing its a proper make, not one of these horrible cheapo things out of a newspaper advert). I have a little JVC Everio which only cost £189 when I bought it, it has a 30Gb hard disk (7 hours at highest quality), but also takes SDHC cards if I run out of space. I think it's pretty good.Out on blue six..
It's Chips and Jackets, Peas and Trousers.0
