Well done on posting your SOA.
I'm not so good at analysing them for families as I don't know what is reasonable.
Any chance you can decrease money on mobile? Clothes and groceries are often areas that could be cut too.
In general make sure you follow the MSE advice for getting insurance, electricity etc on best deals that you can. All the small steps help!
Hopefully someone with more experience will lend their expertise!

  • Hi Jellie

Thanks for your reply, i know the mobiles ar a bit high, although myself and hubby are self employed we use the mobiles a lot, i am going to be more conscious of when i use it though and ensure i bring the cost of it down. Same for the food and housekeeping, went food shopping for the week yesterday and managed to spend £55 only thats a start hopefully :T

That sounds like a good shop. Well done! Have you seen the grocery challenge?
Could you use a more effective tarrif for the mobiles which matches your usage better?

  • Thanks Jellie, i was very pleased with the shopping bill, think i should go more often with a hangover!!. It certainly saved me some money :rotfl:.

I haven't seen the grocery challenge where is that? i am quite new to this site so still trying to find my way around.

With regards to the tariff's we have just re-newed them which i feel is a good deal we pay £20 per month for 600 minutes and unlimited texts, this is for 2 mobiles, although we have another which is £45 contract and this is due to end in November which we are not going to re-new, we are hopefully going to be clever and PUK number over leaving us 2 contract mobiles and go back to a PAYG for my son who is 16. That should free up £45.00 a month :T.

Also been on ebay today selling stuff so trying to aim to put at least one item on a week.

    Hope you are well xxxxxxxxx

The grocery challenge is on the Old Style forum (a great place generally for ideas on cutting down your grocery bill).
The challenge just finishing is here

I haven't looked for next month yet

Sounds like you've done well with sorting out your mobiles.

It might be worth copying your SOA to the main board and seeing if anyone has any ideas on how to improve it over there

I have various ideas as to how to copy the post to the main board. It might take us a few tries!!

    1. Under the SOA post press quote and highlight the text you want to copy. Press CTRL and 'c'
    3. Click onto the main board. Start a new thread with catchy help me type title! In your post when you want to put the SOA press CTRL and 'v'. Hopefully it will then appear and you can submit it!

Let me know any problems and I'll try another cunning plan!

hi ya hun... had a look at your SOA and well done on getting your mobile down.... your food budget I think you can get down a lot.... if you go on my supermarket.com you can compare the prices of supermarkets and you can find out the cheapest option per product as it gives you the price per 100g.... also making things from scratch seems scary and time consuming but when you get the hang of it it's not difficult and it is sooo much cheaper..... the old style board have great recipes.

I use a lot of petrol but have found driving more sensibley and not making unnecessary trips has really saved me some money..... will have a think and let you know of any more ideas I come up with.

Well done for starting on your journey hun
