Marriage licence

Options
Hi all,

We're getting married in a church next June and wondered if we had to apply for a marriage licence somewhere? Or is this outdated now?

I have done nothing towards the wedding, having just been made redundant and no-one to help me I just feel nothing towards it :(

Sorry - off topic!

You still have to apply via the registrar. If you have a look on your local councils website they should have the info there for you.

I'm sorry to hear about your job. We're all here to help if you need advice about things!

    Hi

We are getting married in a church and have to go and give notice of marriage which is going to cost £30pp but not sure if this is a standard price or not.

Sorry to hear about your redundancy. You have got a while yet, so dont worry - I take it you have booked the church? If so thats the main thing!!

Thanks. I will take a look! Good thing I thought of it - I have no list to follow so don't know where to start!

OH works away and shows no interest (I know he is interested but works hard and has other things on his mind) & I'm not getting on very well with my Mum at the mo (yet everything would have to be run past her before I book it) so don't know what I can prepare on my own!

Yes church & reception venue booked - that's it! Give notice? Is that the Bann's? The church will take care of that won't they (got to talk to the Parish Secretary next week)

I think (but dont quote me on it until someone else can confirm) but I think if your getting married anywhere other than an CofE church you have to give notice of marriage to the registrar upto twelve months before your big day.

We are marrying in a Unitarian Church so we wont have Banns read hence why we have to pay £30 each to give notice of marriage.

Thanks, yes we are getting married in CofE.

Guess I could look for a car - I know what I want but trying to find an owner who'll do us a favour could be a job (I need my FIL really but he's been on holiday for 3 weeks)

Its hard sometimes isnt it? I dont speak to my mum at all, and with all other members of family not greatly interested I am doing it all myself as poor h2b is working every spare bit of over time to fund it, so dont like to nag when he home - although he booked the car off his own back.

Why do you have to run everything past your mum? Sorry for being nosy but wouldn't it be easier for you to decide and book? I haven't done that much tbh, church, venue, friend doing photography, only got my dress last week, car, day favours, rings...sounds alot now but still alot to do and your thread made me remember we have to give notice!!
  • Hi there! If you have a good luck through this board you will find lots of info on where to start. We did the inportant things like booking the venue, giving notice etc first, then you can get down to the fun of planning colours, themes, dresses, flowers, favours, invites and guest lists!

We are a friendly bunch on here, so if you ever need a chat we are here for you!

Don't worry and remember it is your and OH's wedding nobody else's!

Thanks Tigerlilley :) I know the colours I want and know the kind of dress I'd like to try - but I have 5 stone to lose before I even want to go near one! So that'll be the last thing I do probably

Rinroo - everything has to be run past her because if she doesn't like something she'll make my life hell - on the day and forever afterwards. She's already forbidden us to send Save the Date cards out (as we're getting married on a Friday we wanted to give people lots of notice). Oh and I have done the guest list, but there's tension over my half-brother and his wife coming from Oz - long story. It's all for a quiet life really but as we're not talking it doesn't make for an easy one!

  • To be honest honey, it sounds to me like she is trying to run your wedding for you. I would just send the save the dates out anyway. You really nee to speak to her and try and sort things out. Is she paying towards the wedding?

Maybe try and give her control over things such as the cake or the favours, if you ar enot bothered, but get her to stick to the colours you want if possible!

If she isn't contributing I would tell her to stick it! If you aren't speaking anyway just go ahead, we will giv you lots of support on here. Have you looked at the Landy thread for wedding dresses. If oyu email them a picture of what you want, they will email you back with a price. You send them your measurements and it will arrive in a couple of months! Lots of girls are very happy with their dresses!

I'm sure you will do fine on the weight loss, but please don't feel pressured to do so! If you want a chat feel free to pm me anytime!

    Good luck Tiger xxx
