Quick Q ref Bank Account

Hi All,

I went BR last Nov, i received a new card for my bank account (the one i was using before & at the time of going BR) I called the bank this morning (telephone banking) and entered my details etc, it seems my account is still active, does that mean A. I can use it and B the OR has no interest?

I do need a Bank Account, so wouldnt mind being able to use it.

You are only allowed a basic bank account whilst undischarged. It is one of the conditions of bc. I would save this account until after discharge;).D

Speak to your OR. It sounds like the bank is ok with you using it, but you will need to check to make sure the OR will let you as well as they may have an interest in it.

I have an apparently fully functioning coop cashminder account and they are more than happy for me to use it, but the OR says I can't, so I can't.

Co-op have tightened their rules recently whereby if they were one of your creditors they are likely to refuse you a cashminder account.

Barclays on the other hand do(or did) still allow you a basic account even if they were one of your creditors........ask phil he got one;).Dx

I didnt have any credit with the co-op, the lady i spoke to said she didnt think it would be my BR stopping me, i will try with Barclays though, at the moment iam having my wages paid into my sisters account, which isnt ideal.

Actually...I refused barclays went with the co-op instead BUT barclays did offer an account even though they were one of the largest creditors.....left them since though after getting a full account with NatWest...

Just a thought......were they definatley checking for a cashminder account? when she said its not the bankruptcy thats stopping....have you looked at your credit files to see if things are as they should be..no fraud markers ID theft etc? are you on the electoral role? seems strange they refused you..

We have just recently moved so that could be a factor i guess? I thought it was strange too as they "specialise" in BR accounts.

I havent looked at my credit file since i was made BR!

Ahhh that could be the issue.....IF your not on the electoral role then companies like the co-op cant verify your ID thats probably why they refused you an account...they don't credit check true..BUT they will perform a search on files for an ID check
