Car Insurance - automatic renewal problem

Options
My husband has shopped around for his car insurance and found a better deal with another company. Unfortunately, he did not tell his existing insurer he didn't want to renew - but they renewed anyway on 22 August on an automatic renewal - something they set up but which you have to opt out of if you don't want it (but which he hadn't realised was in place). They have now renewed his insurance and are due to take the annual insurance money from the card he paid with last year. Alternatively, he needs to pay £26 to cancel. Please does anyone have any advice/comments?
Thanks for your help.

Did they send him a reminder about the automatic renewal? Mine send one every year, so I shop around, find a cheaper quote elsewhere, then phone them up - so far they've matched it every year.

Perhaps he could talk to them and see if they'll match the new quote? Is the new quote £26 cheaper?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
