Depends on whether I wanted capital growth or income and for how long the capital is to be tied up.

    Much, much more information needed.

He would be looking at growth rather than income.

It's quite strange he had nothing & I mean nothing, as a child, his father came from a wealthy family but was disowned as a drunk & was prosecuted for not supporting his family in 60's & left & went tramping. He has found wealth through property, but does not spend or enjoy, He is not well & I doubt he has 10 years but fells comfort in investing his money.

I've tried to sugest he enjoys his money but he's miserable, tight & abnoxious & is only interested in living on the bones of his !!!!!! & accumilating, crazy...

With respect alikat - if the person you are talking about is real, why would you want to help him, bearing in mind your summary of his character? I find it significant that the usual people on here who would normally come up with some ideas, have refrained!

Why don't you ask him to lend his brass (or part of it) to you at 3% interest and you invest it at 4%? Might work.
