Income protection query - plz help!!!!!

Hi, new to this so though I might get some good advice from people in the know.
I lost my job a couple of months ago, and due to savings, am on the 6 month contribution JSA. I also have an Income Protection policy through Cardif Pinnacle's Help u cover, which has been accepted. I booked a holiday in February which I am due to go on Friday, but am a bit worried about whether they will restart the claim when I return. The Job Centre have advised me that I will stop my claim then have to do a rapid resign upon my return, and have given me an ABI1 form to complete which is clear. However am dubious about whether the Insurer will be willing to stop and restart the claim. No info on this situation in the policy document/terms and conditions, it does say you are eligible for 12 payments, however it also says you should be regularly signing on. So really, questions are:

1) What are peoples experiences with this situation, and with this company if possible?
2) Where do I send this ABI1 form I've been given, back to the Job Centre or to the Insurer?
3) Is it common practice for the Insurer to follow the Job Centre and restart the claim, or are they likely to consider the claim null and void due to breaching the Terms and Conditions? If they restart, what kind of benefit would I lose (eg. just the week, or a full month)

Would appreciate anyones help on this, but am not interested in receiving any negative comments re going on holiday when on JSA. Not a situation I'd choose to be in, but I've put enough into the system whilst working since leaving school to be able to have a little bit of help when I need it. Holiday was worked for and paid for fair and square, NOT out of anyone elses pocket.

Thanks so much :)

It will be interesting to hear responses. I cancelled a holiday for the same reason....
  • We were in the same position as you, but luckly DH found another job before the holiday started so he was able to sign off and complete the income protection claim. The terms do state that they will pay whilst you are looking for work (and signing on proves this, so they would have a hard job to cancel your insurance payment in full). For peace of mind, why not give the claims department a call and ask them. Make sure you take a name and note the time of the call so the record of the call can traced should they not keep their word.

You could point out that you will still be looking for work whilst away (internet) and will be willing to travel back should a job come up. Although I do doubt that they will pay you for the period of your holiday.

Hope that you get a fair answer from the insurer and that you are able to get away and have a good holiday!!
