Why can't my microwave be fitted above my hob with an extractor underneath it like they have in the U.S

Personally I always felt that looked wrong. At a guess though, perhaps another reason you don't see it here is because regulations in the UK governing the distance between the hob and extractor fan mean that the microwave would be too high up to be usable? Only guessing.0
