Firefox Memory Usage

Started using firefox V 3.0.13
I have noticed that during any session with firefox graduly memory usage goes up and slowing down the computer performance. Usually FF starts off with 50,000k and gradualy goes over 250,000k memory usage after couple of hours.
I done little test today running IE and FF in turn doing exactly the same browsing within MSE site, IE came down to below 30,000k from initial just over 47,000k where as FF started with just over 50,000k and went upto 87,000k memory usage.
Is this normal or do I need to tune up FF in anyway?

Have you tried using the latest version? It's up to 3.5.2 now.

In FF 6 plugins, 3 extensions and a default theme 138,000k. Going to start FF in safemode to see If it makes any improvement.

  • It's something that hasn't been unfamiliar to Firefox since back in the Pheonix days, and if I was to hazard a guess I'd point the finger of blame towards Adobe Flash Player because it can't be something fundamentally incorrect with the browser that's been left so many years without resolution..

Don't get me started on Firefox memory usage. If you do a google search there are quite a few articles of people with the same problem. Ive given up with Firefox on all my machines because of this. Its been getting worse over the years and the usage on this new version is the worst yet. Ive gone back to Opera

Ive just checked the memory usage for firefox on my desktop and its hit the roof, its at 611,504(and rising), whats going on. Ive got 4 add ons, java quick starter, no script, xmarks and logmein. Ill have to check out the link provided by davidmt83, ive never seen it as high as 611,504, no wonder my cpu performance is up and down like a yoyo,

I've given up with version 3+ of Firefox, and gone back to the good old (for me) 2.0.0.20. I *think* the problem with firefox 3+ I was having was related to the number of livemarks, however the same livemarks work fine in version 2 and the memory and CPU hogging have gone!
