Can anyone recommend a good modem that I can buy off the shelf tomorrow?

if you can afford it a router would be better, netgear are my personal favourite. cost about £40 or £50-60 for wireless. You will need an ethernet adapter (or wireless adapter) for it to work.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I'd recommend the Netgear DG834 ADSL modem / router / firewall. I've got one and it works flawlessly. It's great but the firmware updates can be tricky. You can get them on ebay. Saw the wireless version at a car boot, BNIB, £20!!Today a young man on acid realised that all matter is mearly energy condensed to a slow vibration; we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively; life is only a dream and we are the imaginations of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather.0

If there's any chance that you may upgrade to the new MaxDSL product offering speeds up to 8 Meg in the near future, it is definitely worth considering a router as some ADSL modems can't handle the higher speeds. My vote goes for a Netgear too, I have the DG834G wireless model. This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

I have used and sold Netgear, D Link, Linksys and Belkin and many other brands in both routers and modem, routers are much more affordable now and even some of the supermarkets sell them off the shelf.0
