Co-operative or RAC car insurance?

Once cashback's taken into account, the amount payable for the above two companies would be the same for me, and reading their policy terms and conditions, the cover's similar too (apart from admin charges and cancellation fees, where the CIS are lower). When looking for reviews for these companies (neither of which I've used before), I've found some very bad reviews for both, and not much good for either. Does anyone here have any good feedback on either of them, please?

Im a fan of the co-op as they include free accident pick up and can pay for breakdown cover with insurance, but cashback is a bit slow.

I used CIS the year before last. Great price and even better with the cashback. I did have to claim on the policy although it was not my fault. They did pay out, but it did need a number of phone calls from my end.

Cashback took ages (via quidco) and I had to push for it.

Having said all that, I've just gone with them for my wife's policy. decent price, plus £65 cashback. I'm prepared for a struggle on the cashback, lets hope things have changed.

I have never had car insurance with the Co-op, but they have always been so good with my home and contents insurance that I would be unlikely to consider changing.

Forgot to say, im still with them, and for other things too. Also, join their card thing, its free in the first year, then £1 a year and you get points for products you have with them or when you shop in the co-op. At the end of the year they send you vouchers for your 'shares' - all for doing nothing.

I've used both in the past and think both are OK. I have just gone for RAC this year as they were a bit cheaper and have some enhanced features at no extra cost if you're a member.

Auto Express rated RAC 10th and Co-Op 26th out of 45 insurance companies last year

Note that they do not allow you a driving other cars extension under the policy though.

    Hello all,

My car insurance is due for renewal so I've been looking on the comparison websites (confused.com and comparethemarket.com) to find a cheaper quote than my renewal price.

I was getting unreasonable quotes for TPFT cover so decided to try Fully Comp with breakdown cover included to see if there was much difference in the price. Surprisingly the quotes were cheaper.

The best quote I received was with RAC (£234) Fully comp and includes UK Roadside breakdown cover. I clicked the link which directed me to the RAC website, I checked through the details to make sure everything was correct. On the last page where it shows my quote it says the insurer is The Co-operative. I thought I was going to be insured with RAC or do they find the best quotes from other companies? (confused).

Theres also an option to remove the breakdown cover and save £38 on my quote. It would be cheaper buying the breakdown cover seperately anyways, both RAC and AA have an online deal for £28 but it's a question of which one is the best to go for :)

The RAC will find the most competitive quote from a range of companies. For example, when I had a quote from them in August, the company they would have used was Fortis.
