grant for loft insulation

Hi, first time poster.

I have decided that my loft would benefit from new insulation. I wondered if anyone knew if it is possible to get a grant of somewhat towards the cost? We're in Scotland.

Thanks for reading

To top up the whole of our 2-bed bungalow loft cost £60 ..Homebase Carbon Zero installation on offer at £5 a roll (12 rolls with each roll covering 8.01sq metres) = 96.12sq metres of 170mm thick insulation) so a better deal than that grant. If you've got no insulation you'd need to double it up but even so for upto 55sq metres it still works out cheaper than nPower. Means DIYing it with facemask and suitable knife for cutting ...easy enough though not laid ours yet as its really not the time of year to be doing it - went up in our loft yesterday and longer than 5 minutes i'd probably pass out!

Incidentally a couple of year ago we got a full grant for cavity wall insulation but would have had to pay for loft insulation..the installers recommended i save money by DIYing it as i only need a top up.

I helped a friend top up his loft, a three bed semi, took us two hours and £45 worth of insulation from B&Q. He went from having 100mm thickness of insulation to 300mm. Just wear gloves and goggles, and use boards to navigate your way around the loft.

andrew-b is it definitely 170mm? The only reason I ask is that the Homebase website didn't have the thermal properties, so I looked on the earthwool website, where it only lists 100 and 200 mm thicknesses.

It is just that I was considering going for the B&Q recycled plastic loft insulation, which sounds similar to the Carbon zero stuff. But a couple of pounds dearer.

Also does anyone know if a Lamba value is the same as the U value? Why can't all the companies use the same scale

Don't worry I've found the Knauf insulation website, which not only lists the thermal properties, but also shows that Earthwool carbon zero comes in; 100, 150, 170 and 200mm thicknesses.

Yes it's definitely the 170mm one. I did the same as you and went to the earthwool website and then knauf website.
