Apple Ipod

Hi,
I have not been able to turn on my Ipod after charging it. The Ipod only works when plugged into my laptop or to the adaptor.
I have tried holding both the centre and menu button etc.
I took the Ipod to the Apple store and they said the problem with the battery.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Also, does anyone know how much the Apple store will charge to repair it?

It not really clear, is the replacement battery price ust for the battery? Or does the cost also include removing the battery and replacing it?

As far as I'm aware, the price for repairing the battery is all inclusive.0 -

it is really easy -
- i used a thin guitar pick however most vendors give you a spatular that you can run along the seam between the two sides of the case of the ipod. This will pop the clips that are holding the ipod in place
once this is open find the battery and disconnect the ribbon that runs from the battery to the main PCB...
connect the new one - clip the case back in place - done
