I cannot access MS Money files (9 years of records!) now I have upgraded PC to Vista. Asks for a password - which I never used, or else tells me the file is corrupt. I have tried everything I can think of. I'm running MS Money 2002 and I wonder if one of those sneaky in the background updates included a password facility (which I am sure I never used!)
At wits end after two days of trying to recover all that data......

I use MS Money 2002 with Vista.
I assume you saved a .mny file before you upgraded. Just right click on it and open it with Money 2002.0 -

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have a mny file and a backup. Neither will run. Have tried various file recovery and password recovery tools - without success.0 -

Have you tried this one from MS...

An article at http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/403.aspx states that Money 2002 runs on Vista and they suggest running in "Compatibility Mode" see http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/514.aspx
If that doesn't help post on the "UK Money" section of the Microsoft Discussion Group at http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.uk.money&cat=en_US_f86c3677-5c10-45c7-bfdb-9b2b021c4979&lang=en&cr=US - this is monitored by MVPs from Microsoft and they usually have answers to most problems regarding UK Money.0 -

Thanks for these ideas: no luck with compatability. Have left a message on the MS forum.0 -
If it is a fresh install, Money may need to do some updates before it will read the file. I know my 2005 version did.0
