Something happened to me for the first time ever...

I needed (and reeeeeeeeeeeally wanted) a new picnic bench for the garden. Well it was my birthday last sunday and my hubby gave me £300 to go buy my picnic bench. I had the day off today and was intending to go the sawmill today to order it, when the joint bank statement popped through the door (only hubby uses it) - I had a sneak to see how flush he/we were. Not very was the answer. My conscience played havoc with my for about 30 seconds as I looked at the outstanding bills sat on the desk.

Then I did it.... I took my £300 and paid April (due 1st April) and May's (due 1st May) council tax at £256 and paid car tax for 12 months at £100. The extra money I drew out of my £2 fund. So my current bank account is untouched, as is hubby's overdraft. It means when hubby gets paid next week he can pay the water and electricity bill (bearing in mind the winter quarter electricity bill is £338 - I hate storage heaters!!).

Then we are up to date until 1 June.

I may not have a beautiful picnic bench, but I can't think of anything better then not seeing a stressed look on hubbys face, and we can sleep easy!!

Before my lightbulb moment - I would never have sacrificed my bench, and since it I wouldn't buy it out of my money - because that is to make me debt free, and now I won't do it with his either - because I love him and I want him to beeeee happy. Hell I have an old baby blanket - we can have a picnic under the stars once the kids are in bed...

Sorry for the essay - just wanted to share my thought for the day...

That is lovely! You are building something more important than the picnic bench - a secure and happy future together.

Thank you. Aww it is so nice knowing I have you guys to bolster my confidence when I need it. I will be debt free, I will be thin - but more than anything I want to grow old with the love of my life, and if I can allieviate a tiny bit of stress - for both of us - then hopefully we will live longer together...

  • Always buy garden furniture at end sept as B&Q or similar could well have 75% off. They did last year when I got 4 hardwood chairs, table and brolly for less than £50 quid.

That gave me a big warm feeling to read - that's so lovely.

Definitely ask on freecycle for a bench, I'm sure someone will have one they want rid of
