Moving itunes to a new computer??!!

I've just got a new computer and am wondering how to do this.
I haven't got the files in itunes saved anywhere else (if that makes sense), my only external hard drive is full, and I'm not entirely sure how itunes works if I'm entirely honest!!! I think everything in itunes is on my ipod but possibly not.
What's the simplest, 'idiot's guide' to managing this?
