Thanks for replying,
It was a fresh course, how would I find the terms I signed?
this would be my starting point... all kinds of reference info on there

plus read this article on the main site - this summary table shows when loans are wiped out, but it's worth going through the whole thing as a good starting point.:happyhear0 -
I reached the age of 50 last year:( My loans were taken out between 1991 and 1993. I received a letter last year saying that my loan was being cancelled because of my age. However, I have received the usual application for deferal of payments again this year.
When I checked my previous loan cancellation letter, it refers to only one loan (the 1991 loan) and the 1992 and 1993 aren't mentioned.
Is this a mistake on their part?0 -

I think you need to contact them as I believe all your loans should've been cancelled - seems odd that they've only cancelled one. I presume you're not behind with any repayments?Loan cancellation
Under certain circumstances we may cancel your liability to repay your loan. We will not cancel your liability to repay if you are behind on any repayments for a student loan.
For example, your loan may be cancelled if:
You were under the age of 40 when your last agreement for a student loan was made and you reach the age of 50.
You were aged 40 when your last agreement for a student loan was made and you reach the age of 60.
Your last agreement for a student loan has been outstanding for no less than 25 years.
If you are permanently unfit for work and can provide evidence to show that you receive disability related benefit we may also be able to cancel your liability to repay your loan.

Thanks. I've emailed them. I'm not behind with my repayments so it must be an error on their part.0 -
I had a student loan in scotland 2007. I fell and hurt my leg and wasnt allowed to do the practical side of the course work. Eventually after physio i still wasnt allowed and was asked to leave the course. This week i got a letter saying in 14 days the baliffs will come and take items to the value. Im terrified. Im not working and am on benefits, and have been telling them this and no one is helping me, what will i do?0

Did you withdraw from your course formally?
Are these letters referring to your student loan?
Did you receive any kind of grant? If so, did you repay any overpayments?0 -
Sorry who is writting to you? On behalf of who? Is this the first time they've contacted you?
You should try and get down to your local CAB for some advice on dealing with bailiffs.Sealed Pot Challenge #239

i took out a student loan in 1997 and have since then deferred payment as i was never earning more than 16k.
however over the last few years i have been working abroad and have forgotten/ignored the letters recieved asking for payment/deferal.
now i have finally started opening the pile of letters that have acculumated and i have seen letters from collection agents who are threatening to visit my family residence to reclaim payment.
it seems the student loan company have tried contacting me but with me being abroad i never got back to them.
they have then passed the debt onto collection agents (baliffs?)
yes i have been stupid and naive but now im in a state of panic, please can anyone advise me on what i can do?
i am currently reading through the forums frantically for a similar case.
many thanks0 -
You need to contact the collections agency to arrange a payment plan. Deferment may not be available since you have a collections case now.0

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice. I studied as a mature student between 1999 and 2003. I am still paying back my student loan each month from my salary.
I have received recently a letter from the Student Loans Company saying that I was overpaid £800.58. I ignored the letter as it related to a payment from such a long time ago, but the alleged debt has now been passed onto a debt collection agency.
Can the Student Loans Company reclaim money that was paid such a long time ago? They have provided me with no evidence as to how they came to see that I was overpaid, and I would find it very hard to find those details myself. Can anyone help?0
