Its definitely possible, have a look through for Weezl's threads where she has a meal planner with hundreds of recipes for 50p per portion - I hope you've got some freezer space.

My advice would be to shop around and don't spend the £30 in one place in order to make the most out of it, but utilise different places for different items - for instance I get my fruit and veg from the market as it is a lot cheaper than the supermarket, I get most of my frozen things from Heron, tins, packets and crisps and biccies from Home Bargains and B&M, and the rest from the supermarket. It's a bit of a faff on but it means your money stretches quite a bit further.

It's definately possible and there's been a good few threads I've seen with people in the same (or worse) situations and there has been loads of good advice and recipes and shopping lists and things. If you stock up on cheap staples such as pasta, rice, potatoes you have the basis for loads of good cheap and filling meals and you'll have a bit of variety.

Don't forget the cheap veg and fruit offers in Aldi too, they are good money savers. Your local market could be good for fruit and veg in smaller quantities. When we're economising (most of the time) we eat a lot of rice, noodles and jacket spuds. I try to cook a lot of stuff, biscuits, bread etc from scratch and bung some in the freezer. Buy value brands where you can, especially tinned veg, we buy value cream cheese from Tesco which us good to use as a pasta sauce/sandwich filling and on jacket spuds. As Claire Bear said Home Bargains and B & M stores are good value and Farm Foods have some good prices on tinned stuff and noodles and crisps etc.
Good luck, hope that helps a bit.

    Yes anything is possible!

Try to find out if you can when the supermarkets do their reductions. We were in Somerfield/Co-op today and got loads of things 75% off.Got iceberg lettuce 23p spring onions 17p cucumber 27p packs of mushrooms 23p toms 19p packs of chicken thighs 60p and packs of fresh burgers 62p pack of burger buns 20p. I worked it out that for around £1.00 four people could have a burger with salad, and chicken thighs with mushrooms and salad for round about the same.

I always look out for mince when its reduced as well.I use lots of grated carrot with it so it goes even further(and is healthier for you) this you can use for lasagne, spag.bol. and shepherds pie.

Try to make it a challenge and have fun doing it!!

Porridge is good for breakfast and oats are cheap. You can add a spoonful of asda smartprice raisins for a bit of sweetness.

Otherwise, I can't add to what's already been said! You will get loads of advice on here though. You'll be fine.

PS Baked beans on toast is always a good standby, too! As long as you're not using expensive Heinz beans though!

As other have said: buy some pasta and potatoes ( a bag will be good doesn't have to be proper baking pots) and have your tuna and cheese with that. Cheap SP sauces (like bolognaise) will give you tomatoey flavour with your pasta too and cheese for protein. To be healthy, buy some veg and noodles and do stir fries. Buy milk and oats (Asda SP?) and have porage at breakfast which should keep you full till lunchtime. Under the circumstances some cheap white bread will be good for toast and/or sandwiches for lunch. Drink plenty of water. HTH

Try to go shopping when items tend to be reduced (prob between 7.30 and 8pm-fingers crossed) we have often got items for as little as 10p. Look at the reduced items-tins of beans and veg and loads of other tins with dints in them are often reduced and not inferior product-just cheaper. Look at reduced veg too-we got some vine tomatoes for 20p the other day-much reduced. Make a menu up around what cheap products you can get.
Noodles are cheap and great to bulk out a meal (we have found this anyway).
porridge oats are great for bulking out minced beef dishes-as are chick peas/lentils etc.
We buy cheap packs of mushrooms-value/smart price range-as soon as i get home i cut them up, put them in bags and freeze them-they don't go off and can be added to savoury dishes (don't take long to cook either, even from frozen).
