Help please - being chased for a loan taken out in my name

Hi all
i was hoping someone would be able to help with my situation please
My parents took out a provident loan in my name in 2003 and again in 2004. This was unbeknown to me, until now. When i have finally recieved a letter to my house stating that i owe them £760.
I have asked for the credit agreement that i have supposedly signed, which i have now recieved copies of in the post.
On the agreements it states the usual name and address terms and conditions and a signature.(My name is spelt wrong on one of the letters, i dont know if this helps my case at all)
The signature on the agreeement looks similar mine, (i have a very easy signature) but definitely isn't, so im worried that i havnt got a leg to stand on.
Ive spoken to my parents and they have admitted to taking them both out, but said they are not in the position to help out, and sorry.
So my question is can someone help me, what can i really do next? Can i report it as fraud? what are my options. I really dont want to have to pay for another loan thatmy parents have taken out against there children
thanks in advance
Frances

Of course you can report it as fraud!
What an awful thing for parents to do to their children, that's the lowest of the low.
Surely to God, the provvy person would know who signed for it as it's all done at home?!
Who paid the provvy person each week as I'm assuming it wasn't you.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

Provident are stating as its so long ago, they dont know who the collector is, but i do know. As i can remember her always visiting my mum and even come in for tea! And also, since its my signature that has been falisfied on the agreement its my responsibilty.
My mother always used to pay her, hence i was none the wiser that it had been taken out till now.0 -
Tell your parents if they don't pay then you will report it as fraud. It's not a case of helping out!Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0

Sadly they are using emotional blackmail
So what would my next steps be? Should i write a letter to provident stating that i would like to take it up as fraud? If so what should i write in the letter, is there asnything in particular?0 -
Tell them who the collector was! It's a false signature so it's got nothing to do with you. You dont have to prove anything to them.
If they can trace it back, they should be able to see who signed the form along with your parent/s if they still have the paperwork.
Oh hang on, you have a copy.....is it also signed by someone working for provident? Is it the same woman who collected??Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

And what name did she call your Mum??
If your mums name, the collector would have known that the loan wasn't yours/wasn't in your mums name.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Good point, they should be able to refer back to see who the collector was. I remember her name was Jackie, as she used to come in for cups of tea. So in my honest opinion, this Jackie knew what was going on and allowed it, but my parents abused her trust. (and mine)0

As to this being your problem because it was your signature which was fake, well yes and no. Yes, in one sense, because you are now being chased for a debt which you did not take out or approve. However, also no, as just because it was your signature which was faked, it does not make you liable or responsible for repaying the loans.
Or, to put it another way, if it wasn't your parents who had faked the loan applications, but some local troublemaker of a neighbour who had been through your bins for a copy of your signature, what would you do then?

Sadly they are using emotional blackmail
That is not on! What could they be saying to you to make you feel bad about it? They are the ones who did this to YOU! And, if they now find they cannot afford to repay it, then tough, they need to figure out a budget and repayment plan. Direct them to this site and/or CCCS/Payplan/CAB to get some advice on how to move forward.
I fear that if you don't, and they don't face up to their debt issues then this cycle will simply repeat itself.
I would also recommend that you obtain your credit report from all three agencies to check if they have taken anything else out in your name. If you have siblings, advise them to do the same.
I'm sorry, I know that sounds harsh, but you really need to make it clear that this is unacceptable and that they have to face up to their responsibilities just like everyone else.
Good luck with it all.:hello:February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Without going into to much of there personnal details, they have done this a few times now. (taking credit out in me and my sisters names)
And have always got away with it by one way or another.
They dont work now as they found out they dont have to pay there bills back by doing this. So this is why they have said sorry they can not help.
Since starting thisw thread, I have just asked them to write a letter up stating what they did and that it is there debt, and i will attach it in with a letter to provident stating my case.
Hopefully i can get a resolution now, whether is be by the debt being correctly put in there name or having to file it as fraud
If there is anything else i should do in the mean time please let me know
many thanks0
