As in the title.
My PC crashed after a power failure. Now every time I log on, I have to press F2, then adjust the date and time. Is it the internal battery?
Any advice welcomed.

there should be a small 3v cell battery on the motherboard, make sure it is seated correctly, if it continues, comet/curry's etc sell them for £3 ish.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Thanks for the reply.
Has the thanks button, on here, disappeared?0 -
Probably. Have you had the PC for a few years?
The battery should be a silvery metallic disk about one inch across. First make sure you pull the power lead out of the back of the system unit, wait for about thirty seconds, then touch the case with your hands, to earth yourself. Use a flat-bladed screwdriver (or similar implement) to prize it out very carefully. Either use your voltmeter to check the voltage (surprise!), and your eyes to check the reference number, or just buy a new battery and replace it. It might be worth you putting the old battery back temporarily while you go down the shops, just in case you lose the CMOS settings (if they are still maintained by the battery). I've never had a problem with this, though, but you never know.

Thanks John. If I take the battery out, can I plug in the PC and fire it up whilst I go and get a new battery. (in case I upset the settings)?0

The Thanks button is temporarily inoperative, says another post.
Good thing too, since it saves "Thanksmanship" and the desperate pleading by the more insecure for someone to click their button. B i t c h, b i t c h !

If I have helped you, good!
If I haven't, then maybe I might later?0 -
No, I meant take it out, look at it, then put it back. It doesn't matter if you power the PC up or not.
Proceed to the battery shop, get new battery, return.
Take out old battery, insert new battery. Now power up.
Yeh! Happiness!
