Recruitment Consultants! Aaargh!!!!!

So far this thread has been a very one-sided view on it so I'll do the other!
Recruitment Consultants are employed to put people into jobs. Therefore they make their bonuses by doing this. They get a criteria from an employer, such as the applicant must have x, y and z to get put forward. And they only want so many applications forwarding to them. Some people may have one or two of those and feel because of that they're a certainty for the job and should be put forward. However it's the agency that gets it in the backside if they are sending candidates forward that aren't suitable for the role and not what the client wants. So they cancel their contract with that agency and move onto another.
Agency's forward applications to employers, it's then the employer who decides if the candidate should be interviewed, not the agency. So it's not their fault if the employer finds you not suitable. Usually they don't find out why you were unsuccessful and due to the volume of applications can't call everyone back.
I'm very biased as my little sister works for one of the big ones. She worked (before it closed down and was transferred) in a small town in an office with two people in it. They put jobs on loads of websites and get hundreds of applications for each. How are they meant to go through every single application with a deadline in mind? They don't really read covering letters, they look at CV's for the key skills, if you have them all you'll get a call and if not they don't reply. If you don't like forwarding your CV on then pop in the agency with your CV and ask for an informal chat about the role. Most people expect to just send off a CV and magically have a job at the end of it.
I've not once yet encountered a rude consultant in six years of using them. Maybe if people don't go in with the attitude they appear to have on the forum you might get a lot further with them.
That is the biggest load of carp I ever read in my life. No small wonder you're an RC. Do you really think we are all so simple? Please dont insult our intelligence because you quite clearly have little if any. "Most people expect to just send off a CV and magically have a job at the end of it" - No we/they don't. Most of us expect you to treat us with respect and courtesy at the very least. Most of us expect you to return our calls when you promise to. Most of us expect to apply for a job that actually exists. Most of us work bloody hard to gain skills and experience and do not expect to get a job, just like that, in any climate let alone this one.
You quite clearly are so far up your derriere that you have lost sight of any reason or manners or intelligence or maybe even personality.
Your reply clearly illustrates actually, that you have not read the posts on here because if you had, you would have noticed that although you and your ilk have got a well deserved slating most people acknowledge that there are good and bad in every sector. But there lies the rub, that is EXACTLY what you don't do, READ or LISTEN! Because if you did, there wouldn't have been the opinions raised in the forum that there have.
Lastly, I know very well, that you don't listen to your Client's brief half the time either, which is probably why there are an increasing amount of rec ads with "No Agencies" written at the bottom. Wonder why that could be eh? hmmm....I Am What I Am And What I Am Needs No Excuses:D0 -

Harsh but fair...
Maybe harsh Louise, and I hope fair, but thats pure RC speak, I have dealt with these people both as a Candidate and a Client, and I speak from plenty of experience, as do most people on here I am sure.
Perhaps if one or two had some 'cojones' they could sit down and work out a business model/plan that might go some way toward removing the un-sustainable 'target obsessed' environment that characterizes this sector.
As somebody must have said, there's got to be a better way.I Am What I Am And What I Am Needs No Excuses:D0 -
I agree entirely with you, I have not met one person who has had a positive experience with these cretins.0

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0 -
Que bien dicho!
i'm guessing that means "very well said" ? and i am just guessing lol...I Am What I Am And What I Am Needs No Excuses:D0 -
Have to say I do realise working with agencies can be a bit like working with the devil at times and am fully aware of all their tricks.
But having said that a good RC is invaluable and they are out there, I have used agencies throughout my career as I am too lazy to apply direct, and have had some doors opened to me via agencies that otherwise would be firmly locked.0 -
...with these cretins..
I love that word..cretins! so apt aswell in this case.
Thank Youuu Louise22!I Am What I Am And What I Am Needs No Excuses:D0 -
Gosh I do sense a certain bitterness from some people who have not managed to secure new positions through recruitment consultancies!
I am a recruitment consultant, am extremely professional and reliable, always get back to my candidates with updates, and love my job. The majority of my candidates and clients stay loyal to me, and I have placed many of my candidates in new jobs time and time again.
I have also managed to make an extremely successful career out of it.
I wonder if the difference is that I deal with high end positions, where greater professionalism on both sides is the norm?0 -
Potential Advisor - I do hope you read advertisments more carefully then postings, because if you did you would note that Lufcgirl is not a Recruitment Consultant.
Also, it might have escaped your attention but as we are in the middle of an "economic down turn", recession, or whatever you like to call it, the increased direct advertising and no agencies message is likely due to cost cutting, and the powers that be expecting their HR Departments to do what they are paid for instead of passing the work to the Agency and incurring extra costs.
Considering the amount of Employment Businesses around one would assume that a) They are turning a profit, and b) This is made from securing people jobs. Not quite the picture you are trying to paint."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0
