Paypal holding my money

I sold an item on ebay last week, just over £70. I withdrew the funds on thursday and posted the item.

Anyway today Paypal have took the funds back from my bank or cancelled the pending payment and held the £70. I rang and was told the buyers paypal account became limited as of yesterday and unless the resolve the limitation I WONT get the money.

I have cotacted the buyer and they said they cant resolve it as Paypal are asking for supplier invoices which they do not have as they just sell their old stuff and credit card details which they dont have.

So now Im out of pocket!

Im soo annoyed, I was sent the payment 4 days before their account become limited and dont see why paypal shoult take my money as its not my account thats the problem. They said on the phone its for my own protecton

As long as you followed paypal procedures you will be covered by seller protection. You may have to remind them of that, they sometimes forget. So email them and point this out

I have pointed this out but they said that as long as the buyers account is limited they are unable to release the funds

I've had similar trouble with Paypal in the past RE limited accounts for stupid reasons and can completely understand your frustration when dealing with their customer service (robots!) over the phone. My advice would be to demand to speak to someone in their Dublin telephone center. From my experience, I only ever made progress by speaking to someone in Dublin as they actually listen to you and can string a sentance together on their own without the need of a script in front of them!

    Hope this helps!

its dublin office im ringing but the lady sounds american. shes confirmed the money is going to be reversed. so someone whos done something to warrant a limited paypal account gets rewarded for doing so by getting their money back and me the honest person looses out

In know, Paypal sucks, there seems to be so many flaws with them and from reading previous threads on here it seems everyone except Paypal can see them!!

Are you definitely ringing the Paypal office in Dublin? Has the lady you're spreaking to actully told you she's in Dublin? I didnt think you could ring them directly, I thought you could only ring the number stated on their website and you just got transferred to some random country and then actually ask to speak to Dublin?

Did you follow all paypal procedures? If you did you are covered by seller protection. This is the link to Paypals rules. You may have to just keep telling them because as long as you followed this you are protected. Maybe send them a link to there own rules. Be persistant, if the first person you speak to doesnt get it ask to speak to a supervisor. Also email them as well. Email them what is discussed on the phone as a record of it. Tell them that you have followed there rules so you are covered. They can be a bit dim and sometimes you just need to keep on at them.

The fact that the buyers account is limited is not your problem. Tell them that. JUst keep at them.
  • Paypal is becoming a law to itself. I have just had a £1.35 payment witheld until the buyer left positive feedback, yes... £1.35

ok emweaver, you are doling the right thing so far you are ringing the Dublin office and complaining, unfortunately it's hit and miss when it comes to getting to speak to someone who can make decisions and someone who is paid to obstruct you.

if you have no joy soon it's time to stop ringing the monkeys and start ringing the organ grinders, they operate out of the legal compliance office in surrey, here is a direct dial number for one of paypals legal compliance guys in said surrey office....020 8605 3105.

if the monkeys in Dublin won't play ball ring them and make a fuss, here is the situation as it stands.....
    1. you sold an item using papal to process your customers payment
    2. customer made payment at which time the money legally belongs to you
    3. you posted the item which completes your legal obligation and renders the funds indisputably yours from every conceivable legal viewpoint.
    4. No dispute is raised by your buyer but paypal forcefully remove those funds from your account
    5. paypal stole your money!
the money in question is yours, it was yours before paypal took it and it remains yours now, you are being denied and forcefully stripped of those funds by paypal, an electronic money issuer with no legal powers to freeze, seize, distribute, award or adjudicate on legal ownership of funds.

Explain to the legal compliance department that your buyer has paid for the goods which you have shipped and you are satisfied that they have played no part in the removal and denial of access to those funds therefore unless paypal return the funds which legally belong to you and which paypal took by force without permission (otherwise known as stealing) then you will have no option than to seek recovery of those funds from paypal plus costs via the county court.

If paypal ignore you claim it back via the county court, you won't lose paypal have no right to seize your money, yes it's in their rules but paypal rules mean jack when they contradict the law.

i've done this a few times over the years with a 100% success rate so you can opt to take my advice or not but i've put this out there for you to either follow or ignore at your own discretion.

I would recommend a few more attempts at pestering the monkeys in Dublin first but if that fails there is another option for you.

    Best of luck.

When I went to contact us there was a 08705 number or a +33 number which said it was for the dublin office
